Re this waxed figure: am I the only one who finds her totally, totally creepy??
And by tossing the cap and altering the hair to a bright blond, contemporary shoulder-length style, does she not suddenly look exactly like the English actress Sarah Lancashire (currently starring in Last Tango in Halifax)? In fact, I'm certain our wax molder had her in mind as he sculpted his "Jane."

ElissaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2716833846895246215.post-42412152831262725562014-07-12T01:09:20.043-07:002014-07-12T01:09:20.043-07:00Well, the waxwork makers probably factored in the ...Well, the waxwork makers probably factored in the Paula Byrne portrait. But I adamantly disbelieve in that portrait, so the resemblance to that isn't convincing to me! We all make our own portrait of Jane Austen, anyway. :-)Diana Birchallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18291540900938654707noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2716833846895246215.post-86709556561103785432014-07-12T00:38:04.812-07:002014-07-12T00:38:04.812-07:00Actually the waxwork is not unlike the portrait in...Actually the waxwork is not unlike the portrait in Paula Byrne's possession and illustrated in "The Real Jane Austen Life in Small Things" interesting. Regency women did not have Basset hound bangs as you so aptly described.

After studying the whole image for a while it brought back a childhood memory of the waxwork done of a young John Lennon.

I totally agree that it is a great improvement over the apple cheeked bar maid portrait, which makes me cringe. She does however seem too short to me. I thought she was described as tall, and the pelise that I have seen pictures of that is supposedly hers was for a woman 5 for six.
